This highly competitive event will give you an opportunity for your work to be read by an editor or agent. The contest is self-supporting, and all entry fees go toward prizes. First and second place will be awarded in each category, and cash awards will be given based on the number of paid entries in each category.

Different Voices, Different Visions
This award is made possible, in part, by an anonymous grant. Winning manuscript will receive cash advance and publication by Central California Writers Press, publisher of THE BEST OF VALLEY WRITERS READ, an anthology of authors appearing on the award-winning Valley Public Radio KVPR series.
This is a blind judging. Any entry including the author’s name will be disqualified and entry fee returned.
Entry fee of $25 includes a critique. Final judges will be acquiring literary agents whose names will be announced with the winner’s.
Eligible: Novel, short story collection, memoir, essays, poetry collection. Prose manuscripts should be double-spaced, from 55,000 to 80,000 words. Poetry collections may be single or double-spaced. Only one book will be selected. Manuscripts will be judged on literary excellence.

Final judging will be by an acquiring editor/agent in the appropriate genre. If there is a tie in any category, two prizes of equal value will be awarded.

Student: Any genre by a student through high school
How to enter:
Your name must not appear on your entry. Instead, include a cover page with the following information: Name, Address, Phone, e-mail (optional), Category.
1. Novel. Submit first 2,000 words (double-spaced pages) and a one-page, single-spaced synopsis, in addition to cover page. Novels in this category need not be completed.
2. Short Story, any genre. Submit a short story of up to 4,000 words.
3. Nonfiction Book. Submit a double-spaced proposal, no longer than 10 pages. Include the first 2,000 words of your book.
4. Article/Essay. Submit a nonfiction article or essay up to 3,000 words.
5. Poetry. Submit one poem, double or single spaced.
